The 3D capability is one of the outstanding highlights of this set. Samsung employs the Active 3D method for presenting 3D images with their LED HDTV sets. The secret to developing the 3D effect is to make certain that each of the stereoscopic 3D images is seen only by the appropriate eye. This can be done by one of two different methods, known as “passive” and “active“. Passive systems make use of glasses that have polarized lenses that operate in tandem with polarizing filters that are part of the TV screen.

When it comes to an Active system, the lenses of the glasses “actively” become opaque, then transparent, by switching the LCDs that make up the lenses. Each eye is obstructed in alternation, when the stereo frame for the left or right eye is presented on screen. The coordination is achieved by synchronizing the lenses of the glasses using a message transmitted by the Television set.

These switching frames are presented at the rate of at least120 HZ, ensuring that both eyes see 60 images each second. Since each eye perceives the full resolution image, there isn’t any loss of quality in the 3D image – unlike with a passive system, where the resolution is cut in half. They have 2 kinds of glasses available. One set requires batteries, the second type is rechargeable, by using a USB connection. The rechargeable glasses are very light in weight, weighing only one ounce, and last many hours of operation for every charge.

Samsung’s Active 3D system lets you “up-convert” conventional 2D videos and channels to what is called “near 3D” presence. Which means that the 2D channels, either commercial broadcasts, DVDs, or maybe own home movies can be displayed having the appearance of 3D-like perspective which is not normally present in the actual content.

The size of the TV screen is a crucial consideration when evaluating a 3D television purchase. The most beneficial seating distance, for full 3D effect, is 3 times the vertical dimensions of the TV screen. For a 46″ screen (with a vertical dimension of around 23″), the suggested viewing distance should be roughly 67″, or approximately 5.5 feet.

In the LEGO Star Wars series of sets, there have been six different versions of Slave 1, the ship used by Boba Fett, the bounty hunter.
